Microblading FAQ

What is microblading?

Microblading is a semi permanent form of tattooing. Unlike regular tattooing, microblading penetrates only the uppermost layer of the skin. Microblading lasts for up to one year, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and daily products used. This procedure is best for those with healthy skin, medium skin thickness, medium to full amount of brow hair, and normal to dry skin type. This option is great for those with medium to fuller brows that just need more shape and color. The more hair that is already present on the brows the better and more natural the results will look.

What is the difference between Microblading and Microshading or Ombre Powder Brows?

Microblading fills in the brows with tiny “hair-like” strokes. Microshading or Ombre Powder Brows, is a technique done with a PMU machine in which dots or “pixels” of pigment are layered over each other to create a shaded in look. Ombre Combo and Ombre Powder brows will create a more defined look similar to the look of brow powder. This technique is great for all skin types including oily skin and can last longer than microblading depending on lifestyle, skin type, and daily products used. This procedure is also great for those with little to no brow hair.

Who is not suitable for Microblading?

Microblading is best for those who have healthy skin on the drier/ thicker side that does not bleed easily.

Microblading works BEST on these types of skin:

  • Dry skin type with small pores. Skin that’s thin but not extremely thin. This type of skin is usually not very sensitive and doesn’t bleed easily.

  • Normal to combination skin-type with small pores. Skin can be a bit oily to dry and sensitive or not sensitive. This type of skin is usually non-translucent and can range from light to dark skin tones, young or mature skin and does not bleed easily.

  • Normal to Oily skin with medium pores. Skin that is thicker and a bit oily. This type of skin is usually non-translucent and can range from light to dark skin tones, young/mature skin and does not bleed easily.

Microblading will NOT WORK WELL for these types of skin:

  • Thick oily skin with large pores, tends to bleed easily. The skin texture and constant production of oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a thicker diffused, softer look. You run the risk of strokes fanning and bleeding into each other. Consider Ombre Brows instead.

  • Super-thin, soft, hypersensitive, skin with barely any upper skin layer. Usually translucent and pale with invisible pores and can have rosacea or dermatitis. This type of skin bleeds VERY easily, has a harder time healing, Pigment can appear more ashy, blurred and patchy.

If you have an old tattoo that is still quite dark, the strokes will blend right into the old tattoo and results will not look as crisp as going over blank skin.

If you bleed easily, do not heal well or prone to infection, microblading results cannot be guaranteed.

How long does the appointment take?

Microblading takes about 1.5-2 hours. Ombre Combo and Ombre Powder takes about 2-2.5 hours. During the initial session we will do a consultation, numb the skin, map and measure the outline, and go over healing instructions. After the initial session you will come back after 4 weeks for the touch up or perfecting session which lasts an hour.

Is it painful?

We do our best to ensure the comfort level of each client by using the best products and numbing cream. Numbing is included in the price for both initial and touch up sessions. Please follow the pre-appointment instructions in your confirmation email to get the most pain free experience. Every person has a different pain tolerance level, however the majority of clients experience little to no pain. You may even fall asleep during the session!

How long does it take for brows to heal?

Healing typically takes about 7-10 days and color takes 4-6 weeks to fully settle. Healing is not linear. Every person will have a different healing experience depending on the health and condition of the skin and lifestyle. Healthy skin will always heal better and refraining from alcohol, smoking, eating a healthy diet, drinking 8-10 glasses of water, and getting enough sleep will reduce inflammation and help you heal faster. If scabs form DO NOT pick or scratch them as this can remove pigment and cause scarring. Following the healing instructions are extremely important to the outcome of your results. All products that touch a clients skin are sterilized, new, and single use. Following the healing instructions is the best way to prevent skin infections and complications. Please notify your artist of any known allergies. If you have sensitive skin, or have been allergic to metals such as gold/silver/nickel, makeup, hair dyes, or other pigments please come in 1 week prior to your appointment for a patch test.

What if I have work from another artist?

Working over another artists microblading or tattoo is extremely difficult. It is preferable that the old microblading or tattoo is at least 50% faded. Please send pictures to 907-830-4140 before booking your appointment.

What if I do not like my brows?

It is important to do in depth research on an artist and their work before booking, whether with me or another studio. It is also important to understand the process and set realistic expectations for yourself. That being said, we do our best to ensure every client has a great experience and amazing results which is why we have a 5 star Google rating!

Every client receives a full consultation during their appointment (you can also set up a free consult prior to booking) in which we will discuss your wants and needs and what we can realistically achieve with your natural brows and skin. We carefully map and measure the outline for accurate symmetry. Keep in mind human faces are rarely symmetrical and some variation between the brows is normal. As the old saying goes: Brows are sisters not twins!

Pigment color is chosen based off of your natural brow and root color/ skin undertone. During the healing process you may lose some pigment or have fading in some areas that can make the brows look off. Color and shape will be perfected at your touch up.

What kind of payments do you accept?

Cash is preferred but we accept debit/credit cards, Zelle, Cash App, and Venmo. No personal checks please.
